LOMBOK & SUMBAWA
Summary

This tour is provided as a cooperation between The Extra Mile and Intrepid Moto Bali Tours.
Earlier in 2023, Renzo from The Extra Mile hired a tour in Bali from Intrepid Moto run by James. Long story short: like-minded people get along! It was a no-brainer that a cooperation would be perfect, hence this is the first Adventure Bali tour we are glad to offer now.
This tour is offered on 2 bike models we do not possess in Vietnam:
_ Basic standard is the Kawasaki Versys X250. The domestic Indonesian market has the 250cc version instead of the 300 one.
_ The Hunter Motorcycles Maverick 500: Hunter Motorcyles is an Indonesian brand with high quality clones of Honda bikes. This brand has become a default brand for government use motorbikes. The Maverick 500 is a clone of the CB500X and is currently widely used by Indonesian police due to its performance and handling.
Tour Highlights
- Empty coastal roads and spectacular ocean viewpoints.

Tour Itinerary
Arrival & Warm up

Upon arrival in Lombok, guests are welcomed with a complimentary airport transfer to our luxury resort in Sekotong. After settling in and enjoying lunch, we gather for a tour briefing and safety orientation before setting out on a relaxed warm-up ride. This short introduction allows everyone to become familiar with their motorcycles while taking in the peaceful atmosphere of southern Lombok. As the day draws to a close, we enjoy a delicious beachfront barbecue while watching the sun set over the ocean, marking the perfect beginning to our island adventure.
Off to the Races

Our first full riding day takes us along some of Lombok’s most spectacular ridgelines, where sweeping views stretch across the coastline and surrounding countryside. Throughout the morning, we follow scenic roads that showcase the island’s natural beauty before arriving at the world-famous Mandalika MotoGP Circuit. Here, riders enjoy an exclusive opportunity to experience this modern racing venue firsthand. Continuing through traditional Sasak villages and tobacco-growing regions, we gain insight into local life before reaching our luxury beachfront camp. The evening is spent relaxing beside the sea with dinner and a bonfire under the stars.
Crossing Over

After breakfast, we continue north towards Kayangan Port where we board the local ferry for the crossing to Sumbawa Island. The journey across the Lombok Strait offers beautiful views of the surrounding islands and volcanic landscapes. Upon arrival, we visit a traditional fishing village where local customs and maritime traditions remain largely unchanged. As the afternoon progresses, we ride along quiet coastal roads towards our oceanfront accommodation. Arriving in time for sunset, we settle into our beachfront resort while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of western Sumbawa.
Sekongkang to Labuan Jambu

Today’s route showcases the incredible diversity of Sumbawa’s landscapes. Departing Sekongkang after breakfast, we begin with a series of exhilarating twists and turns before entering vast agricultural regions that stretch across the island’s southern interior. As we gradually climb into the highland forests, the scenery changes dramatically, with dense vegetation and opportunities to spot local wildlife. Later in the day, we join the island’s central highway and continue eastward through remote countryside before arriving in Labuan Jambu, where a comfortable evening awaits after a rewarding day in the saddle.
Swimming with the Giants

An early start before sunrise brings us to one of the most unforgettable experiences of the entire tour. Boarding a traditional wooden boat, we venture out onto calm waters in search of the majestic whale sharks that frequent this region. Swimming alongside these gentle giants is a truly extraordinary encounter and a highlight for many riders. Following a traditional campur-style lunch served by a local family, we continue our ride through rolling hills and rugged coastal scenery. As the afternoon unfolds, we make our way to Sape and settle into a luxury dive resort overlooking the sea.
Rest Day & Optional Activities

After several exciting riding days, today offers a chance to slow the pace and enjoy the tropical paradise surrounding us. Guests may spend the day relaxing by the resort, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, kayaking along the coastline, paddleboarding, or exploring nearby villages. For those seeking additional adventure, optional diving excursions and introductory dive courses are available. Day trips to Komodo Island and the famous Pink Beach can also be arranged. Whether choosing relaxation or exploration, this day provides the perfect opportunity to recharge before the next stage of the journey.
Sape to Tambora Peninsula

Leaving Sape behind, we begin our ride around the breathtaking eastern cape of Sumbawa. The route offers a wonderful mix of coastal scenery, remote roads, and dramatic ocean vistas. Along the way, we stop to explore an abandoned lighthouse standing proudly above the shoreline, a reminder of the region’s rich maritime history. The afternoon is spent cruising along the island’s northern coastline, where endless ocean views accompany us for much of the ride. As sunset approaches, we arrive at our oceanfront bungalows on the Tambora Peninsula, one of the most beautiful and remote locations of the entire tour.
Tambora to Sumbawa Besar

Today’s adventure takes us through some of the most unique landscapes in Indonesia. Departing Tambora, we travel across open savannah-like terrain that contrasts dramatically with the lush tropical scenery encountered earlier in the journey. Scenic off-road sections add an extra element of excitement as we navigate this vast and sparsely populated region. After enjoying a traditional local lunch at one of our favourite family-run restaurants, we continue along spectacular coastal roads featuring endless ocean views and sweeping curves. By late afternoon, we arrive in Sumbawa Besar and settle into our charming seaside accommodation, where there is time to relax with a swim before dinner.
Sumbawa Besar to Sembalun

This morning we follow the scenic northern coastal highway towards Poto Tano, enjoying beautiful views of the sea and surrounding hills. Upon reaching the port, we board the ferry for our return crossing to Lombok. As we leave Sumbawa behind, a new landscape emerges ahead. After disembarking, we begin climbing into the highlands towards Sembalun, one of Lombok’s most spectacular mountain regions. Along the way, we stop frequently to admire panoramic views of Mount Rinjani and the surrounding valleys. Arriving at our mountain resort in the late afternoon, we enjoy a relaxed evening around a bonfire beneath the cool mountain air.
Sembalun to Senggigi

Our final riding day begins in the tranquil surroundings of Sembalun. As the morning light illuminates the dramatic peaks of Mount Rinjani, we set off for a leisurely ride through the island’s mountainous interior. Gradually descending from the highlands, we pass through traditional villages and fertile countryside before reaching Lombok’s bustling western coastline. The final kilometres lead us into Senggigi, where our adventure concludes at a beautiful beachfront resort. As we reflect on the remarkable experiences of the past ten days, from whale sharks and volcanoes to remote coastlines and mountain passes, it becomes clear that this journey has revealed some of Indonesia’s most extraordinary landscapes and unforgettable riding roads.
